News and Announcements

Good afternoon,

This year’s Little League Night with the Syracuse Mets will be the evening of Saturday, June 10th.

The pre-game Little League Parade around the field starts at 5:30 p.m. All little leaguers & family that want to participate in the pre-game parade must be inside the stadium & lined up by this time. Please plan to arrive early to give yourself time to park, go through security, etc. As the time gets closer we can try and arrange something so that everyone from JDLL can parade together.

The purchasing of tickets is not organized by the league. I recommend that a volunteer from each team help to organize a group ticket purchase is kids/families want to sit together in a particular location. Its usually a packed house on LL night so I don’t recommend waiting until the last minute.

Here is a link to buy tickets. Additional information and a QRC code link can be found on the attached flyer.

An Opening Day to Remember

Greetings everyone,

Words cannot describe how amazing it was to see so many come together at St. Mary’s this past weekend for Opening Day. I wasn’t sure what to expect given the uncertainty of the weather so it was truly extra special to see such an incredible number of our players on the field to celebrate the start of the season. I’ve been a part of the league now for 8 years and it was easily one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve had on a Little League diamond.

On behalf of the league, I would like to express our gratitude to all of our honored guests for supporting baseball and softball in our community including County Executive Ryan McMahon, County Legislators Rick McCarron and Dave Knapp, DeWitt Town Supervisor Ed Michalenko, the Honorable David Gideon, Town of DeWitt Justice (and former JDLL President), NY State Assemblyman John Lemondes and our most distinguished of guests, Otto the Orange. I think Otto got his steps in on Saturday while running for his life in the outfield after the ceremony. A sincere thank you also to the Southwood Fire Department, Ali Baba Food Truck, and Rick’s Polar Pops for helping to make the day special. Finally, thank you to Tiffany Gratien (Photos by Tiffany, LLC) for helping to capture some of the special moments.

Personally I want recognize and thank the MANY people who have been working hard to plan the day for over a month right up until the soggy morning of. A great deal of credit belongs to Treasurer, Majors Coach, and Opening Day Master of Ceremonies, Matt Doran. Even though the rain got the best of us and second base turned to quicksand, Majors Baseball Coordinator and die-hard Phillies phan, Mike Jordan, worked tirelessly to prepare the field (as he always does). I want to also thank a few members of our AV crew – Damon Bennett, Jeff Stark, and the Millea family – for getting the scoreboard right, setting up canopies, and donating a great deal of your time and energy. If you could, please thank them all the next time you see them. Since there are so many more people who deserve credit for day-to-day operations and getting JD baseball and softball players on the field (our umpire-in-chief, league coordinators, snack shack volunteers et al.), I look forward to doing “a featurette”on many of them throughout the season. Likewise, our sponsors are a critical part of growing the league and making special events like Opening Day possible. I look forward to also recognizing their commitment to our players and the league in the weeks and months to come.

Have a GREAT season! Enjoy every moment because it goes by fast.

Swing for the Fences

Dear Jamesville DeWitt Little League Families,

Throughout this past year our league has partnered with the JD Booster Club and a very dedicated and generous group of parent volunteers on a project to improve Lyndon Fields. Minors and majors Little League softball teams as well as JV and Varsity JD softball teams all call Lyndon Fields their mutual home. The ultimate, overarching goal of the coalition was to therefore provide encouragement and support to our female athletes throughout their softball journey from Tee Ball to Red Ram.

A tremendously successful community fund-raising effort concluding in the Varsity co-captains presenting a $64,362 check to the district at this past Monday’s school board meeting. The resources will go towards renovations on dug-outs, batting cages, fencing, seating, and other upgrades. The project is slated to break ground this June and continue through the summer. For more about the presentation and the project: https://www.jamesvilledewitt.org/j-d-varsity-softball-players-unveil-impressive-swing-for-the-fences-campaign-check/

Thank you to all the families and businesses whose donations helped demonstrate widespread community interest in the project. Thank you also to the many individuals that contributed so much of your time to organize and plan the endeavor, included members of our Little League Board. Our appreciation for your service and charity cannot be understated.

I hope that all our softball teams have a great spring season!

Opening Day 2023!

Posted by Jamesville-DeWitt Little League at Apr 16, 2023 9:59AM PDT

Good afternoon jamesville Dewitt Little League families!

Jamesville DeWitt Little League cordially invites you (and other community members) to our Opening Day ceremonies on Saturday, April 29th at St. Mary’s Field. The ceremonial first pitch of the 2023 season will be tossed at 11:30am followed immediate by a Majors Division game between the the Yankees and the Phillies. A AAA Division game between the Mets and Expos will be begin at 1:30pm at Jamesville Elementary. One of our majors softball teams will also be in action (@FM) at 1pm.

We are very excited to announce that County Executive Ryan McMahon will be throwing the first pitch that day! Other town, county and state representative will also be in attendance at St. Mary’s Field showing their support for the league and our community. We might have a few other surprise attendees there too. Our snack shack will be open grilling up hamburgs and hot dogs. The Ali Baba food truck will be parked at St. Mark’s as well serving gyros and tacos amongst other menu items from 11am-1pm. Since everyone will be visiting Jamesville Elementary that day for pictures, we would love for you to stop by, grab some lunch and stay for the game! Parking will be limited at St. Mary’s so we kindly ask that everyone park at JES and walk the short distance over to the field which is located essentially behind JES on nearby Quinlan Ave.

Speaking of pictures, here is the picture day schedule for that day arranged by division and coach. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your assigned time so that the photographers can stay on schedule. The pictures are done in the JES gym so* please do not have players wear cleats into pictures.* . Coordinators/coaches will be distributing uniforms, little league jersey patches, and envelopes for picture orders soon. It does help make things run smoother if envelopes are filled out prior to arrival. We do not host a make-up picture day so please try and be there with your team, if possible.

Spread the word! We hope to see you on the 29th. We look forward to it being a special day!
